Dan Smith’s Candies was originally started as an ice cream company in 1946 on the porch of Dan Smith’s home in Brookville, PA.  Seven years later encouraged by the success of the ice cream business, Dan decided to branch out into making candy.  One of his first candies made were the coconut and peanut clusters that we still make today.

In 1984 Dan sold the business to the next generation of his family.  Under the families ownership the factory and the factory store on Barnett Street in Brookville has continued to flourish.  Dan Smith’s Candies and Gifts stores were also opened in Clarion and Ridgway Pennsylvania offering not only our quality chocolates but also unique gift ideas.

After being a family owned business for over 60 years the company was purchased by Joe and Amy Scarnati in 2015.  Right after taking over, the new owners opened The Dan Smith Candy Company & Gifts store in DuBois.  Besides some of our most popular chocolates like our creamy peanut butter melt-aways or our sea salt vanilla caramels we will also be introducing some new chocolates that are sure to be instant favorites.
