Is Obedience to Christ Necessary? The New Testament letter to the Hebrews was written to remind Christians who were in imminent danger of falling away from Christ that He is the "author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (read Hebrews 5:8-6:6). Hebrews chapter eleven defines biblical, saving faith by using examples to prove that the faith of all who would please God must be obedient. The apostle Paul stated that obedience to the faith was the purpose of his apostleship among the Gentiles (Romans 1:5), and that the Gospel is made known in order to be obeyed (Romans 16:25-27). He further reminded Christians of the role that obedience plays in their own receiving of God's gift of salvation (Romans 6:1-23). He warned that al who are contentious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wil suffer indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish (Romans 2:8-9), and that those who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9). Faith without works is as dead today as it was two thousand years ago (James 2:17-26), and Jesus Christ is still the author of eternal salvation unto all those who obey Him Send Your Bible Questions, or Write or Email for a Free Bible Correspondence Course Church of Christ, 20 Hughey Road, Brookville, PA 15825 thebook@countrypreacher.com Is Obedience to Christ Necessary?
