Chamber Corner "You have to believe it before you see it" unknown The phrase "there's nothing here" is said so frequently about our little town and without thought. What if we started to say "there is so much for us to be thankful for in Punxsutawney." Thankful to have a local hospital to aid us within minutes of an emergency. Thankful for all our first responders right here in our town. Our Borough Police Force, State Police Headquarters, EMS, Firefighters, and local response teams ready to rescue and protect us. Thankful for our schools, public and private, IUP and Culinary campuses providing continued education to the local community and expanding areas. Our baseball and softball complex far exceed many in our state. We have recreational amenities at our fingertips to include our community pool, golf course and country club, Rails to Trails, community center, parks and town square, Historical Society, Weather Discovery Center, local library, theater arts guild and many other community run groups and activities. Thankful for our local media sources delivering news and updates via our radio stations and two newspapers. For our convenience, we have local shopping amenities, from family owned shops and restaurants to the corporate complexes, two hotels and bed & breakfasts Thankful for our various employment opportunities through local leaders in the manufacturing industry. And our local Chamber of commerce providing community and business support through the efforts of our hardworking board members, director and civic volunteers. Grateful for a community that pulls together and helps one another when tragedy strikes Thankful for being the only small town that has a world-wide recognized holiday and local celebrity, Phil, that brings acknowledgement and tourism to our town year after year, day after day There's so much more to be thankful for but the few things mentioned should shine light on the topic. So the next time we want to say "there is nothing here" stop and focus on what is here and what YOU can do to make it better. The next time you travel out of our small town and come back and see the sign "Punxsutawney 20 miles" smile and be happy you are almost home.
